LA DOLCE VITA: A Night of Awakening Creativity

It’s time to wake up and remember to play.

Join S.H.I.N.E. Networking Inc. for A Night of Awakening Creativity guided by author Meg Nocero of The Magical Guide to Bliss and Butterfly Awakens, “A Happying Event” meant to inspire guests to awaken to La Dolce Vita and come alive to the beauty of dreams while remembering to play. This event will take place at the Books & Books in Coral Gables, Florida, on May 5, 2023, at 7 p.m.

When Miami resident Meg Nocero lost her mother to breast cancer, she found grief a force to be reckoned with, one that shifted her priorities from a successful but demanding career as an immigration attorney for the federal government to focus on her physical and mental health and find her bliss. Nocero created a guide, The Magical Guide to Bliss, seven years ago. After she followed it, she wrote Butterfly Awakens: A Memoir of Transformation Through Grief ($18.95, She Writes Press, September 2021), a unique story of what she discovered during this journey that brings readers through the grief process, her rejection of a toxic work environment, struggles with a medical diagnosis and a determination to place her faith in intuition. Nocero invites everyone to come along and come alive to the beauty of life and, of course, there will be dancing.

Under Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar of the Happiness Studies Academy, Nocero studied the science of happiness and created this “Happying Event,” a presentation based on the S.P.I.R.E. elements of whole-being happiness: Spiritual, Physical, Intellectual, Relational, & Emotional.

In that respect, S.H.I.N.E. Networking Inc. is pleased to host international painting artist Hector Prado, who will do a live painting. In addition, music artists Jon Saxx, Ava Simone, and DJ Lawrence Newberg will be performing. Dr. Ceci Shaw, author of “The Spell” and Quantum Energy Medicine Practitioner; Mike Zubi, lead instructor at Rode and motivational guru; and David Landau, editor extraordinaire, will present as well. It will be a night full of creativity, music, and dancing.

S.H.I.N.E. Networking and Meg Nocero are excited to invite everyone for an evening of magical inspiration. Enjoy the lite bites and BUTTERFLY drinks and PLAY. Meet the creatives and get inspired to begin your own journey. The Board of S.H.I.N.E. Networking Inc. will also present the 2023 Inspiration Award to actor and director Miguel Luciano for his role as teacher and director with the kids in Miami for over 15 years.

In celebration of mothers everywhere, Clear Sight Books has released “She Found Her Voice”, a biography of Nancy Evans Roles, Artist and Advocate, written by her daughter, Barbara McKinnon.

The book captures the spirit and achievements of a remarkable woman who not only raised three children but also became a regionally known plein air artist and social justice advocate. 1599: A Year in the Life of William Shakespeare by James Shapiro is tonight, Thursday, April 27, named winner of the Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction ‘Winner of Winners’ Award. The winner was announced by Chair of Judges, Jason Cowley, at a ceremony hosted at the National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh.

The Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction Winner of Winners Award marks the 25th anniversary of the UK’s premier non-fiction book prize by crowning the best work of non-fiction from the last 25 years of the prize. As the winner, Shapiro will receive £25,000.

The winner was chosen by a judging panel comprising of: New Statesman editor-in-chief, Jason Cowley (chair); academic, critic and broadcaster, Shahidha Bari; journalist, author and academic, Sarah Churchwell; and biographer and critic Frances Wilson. Their selection was made from a shortlist of six books, taken from the previous 24 prizewinning books.

In the course of 1599, Shakespeare completed Henry V, wrote Julius Caesar and As You Like It in quick succession, and produced the first draft of his greatest play, Hamlet. In his winning book 1599: A Year in the Life of William Shakespeare, Shapiro shows how The Bard progressed from his tale of two star-crossed lovers to Hamlet. Shapiro finds one question the most pressing: how did Shakespeare become Shakespeare – one of the greatest writers who ever lived?

James Shapiro is Professor of English at Columbia University, where he teaches Shakespeare. His earlier books have received international acclaim, including 1606: The Year of Lear, which won the James Tait Black Prize; 1599: A Year in the Life of William Shakespeare, which won the Samuel Johnson Prize; and Shakespeare in a Divided America, selected as one of the 10 best books of the year by the New York Times. Shapiro is also the author of Contested Will: Who Wrote Shakespeare?, Oberammergau: The Troubling Story of the World’s Most Famous Passion Play, Shakespeare and the Jews, and Rival Playwrights: Marlowe, Shakespeare, Jonson, and edited the Library of America anthology, Shakespeare in America. His reviews have appeared in The New York Times Book Review, Times Literary Supplement, the London Review of Books, and other publications. He has served on the board of directors of The Royal Shakespeare Company, and advises productions for the Public Theatre in New York and other companies. Shapiro was a collaborator on The King and the Playwright, a series he hosted for the BBC and also hosted the BBC The Mysterious Mr. Webster. In 2011, he was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is currently serving as a Booker Prize judge.

Jason Cowley, Chair of judges, says:
“1599 is a remarkable and compelling book. A history of four masterpieces and of so much more, it produces a life of Shakespeare, about whom so little is known, through an ingenious fusion of history, politics, and literary criticism. The result is a poised and original re-imagination of biography. Shapiro returns Shakespeare to the stage of his own world, and in so doing, he transforms our understanding – not only of the great works but also of the social atmosphere of his times. Erudite, accessible and formally bold, it will appeal to anyone interested in history, politics, literature and good writing.”

Peter Singlehurst, Partner at Baillie Gifford, says:

“The strapline for the Baillie Gifford Prize is ‘all the best stories are true’. But it is not necessarily their factfulness that makes these books so special, it is the stories about people, ordinary and extraordinary. Choosing one book seems an impossible task and we thank the judges for taking on the unenviable responsibility. Many congratulation to James Shapiro.”

Sir Leonard Blavatnik, Head of the Blavatnik Family Foundation, says:

“For twenty-five years, the Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction has recognized immensely talented authors. We congratulate James Shapiro on this exceptional achievement. We are proud to be the long-time sponsor of the podcasts showcasing the short-listed books and their authors, as well as the annual celebratory gala in London when the winners are announced.”

Lost Girl

Front Cover

In the relaunch of her riveting first memoir Lost Girl: From the Hood to the White House to Millionaire Entrepreneur, Rebecca Contreras tells her inspiring story of transformation, perseverance, and how a lost girl was found. Born prematurely as a drug-addicted infant to a single mother in a Texas border town, Rebecca came to know abandonment all too well. Yet despite becoming a teenage, welfare-dependent mother herself, she earned her GED and managed to break the generational cycle, working her way up to become an advisor to the President of the United States before achieving the American dream by becoming an entrepreneurial success story.

After setting the stage by recounting a childhood filled with neglect and abuse, Rebecca shares how she overcame the obstacles of her past. In her words, “We can’t focus on what we lack or the mistakes of our past, but we have to be deliberate about our future. With perseverance, faith, embracing the hard change of self, and engaging strong mentors, that GED took me from the hood to the Office of the Texas Governor, and eventually all the way to the White House.”

Her desire to change her life’s trajectory and her sheer will and resolve to succeed altered the course of her and her family’s lives forever. But she doesn’t stop there. Sharing what she learned along the way has become her passion as she reaches out to mentor others because, as she says, “No one—and I mean no one—makes it flying solo.”

Rebecca Contreras has been the President and CEO of AvantGarde LLC, a 110+ employee human capital consulting firm, since founding it in 2011. Along with her husband, she is also the co-founder of the nonprofit organization LaunchPad, which serves disadvantaged inner-city youth through educational programs and mentoring.

Because Rebecca’s book is a demonstration of hope and empowerment for young at-risk women, Lost Girl is being relaunched to coincide with the 2023 Girls of Legacy Kickoff Event on April 11. Rebecca was inspired by promising young women through her work in the inner city and started Girls of Legacy in 2022, her signature initiative. Through her own matched funding, the program has been able to support ten Class of 2022 Title 1 high school graduates through partial scholarships and mentoring in college and professional development/training programs.

The eBook for Lost Girl is being offered at a promotional price during the 2023 Kickoff Event, and 100% of any proceeds will go toward Girls of Legacy fundraising efforts.
